GSM, denier and weave count describe different parts of the construction. None of them alone guarantees strength or service life.

Buying principle: define application, destination, exposure, handling and target life before comparing price.

GSM describes finished weight

Grams per square metre is useful for weight, handling, freight and broad product positioning. It does not identify how much weight sits in the woven base, lamination, additives or reinforcement.

Denier describes yarn linear density

Denier helps describe the yarn used in the woven base. It should be considered with tape width, orientation, raw material and weaving consistency rather than treated as an independent strength promise.

Weave count describes yarn arrangement

A notation such as 9 × 9 describes the number of yarns in two directions over the stated measurement basis. Buyers should confirm the basis and tolerance because shorthand can vary by market.

Performance comes from the complete tarp

Waterproofing, tear behavior and field durability also depend on coating adhesion, UV package, welds, hems, corners, eyelets and correct installation.

BUYER FAQ

Direct answers for sourcing teams

Does higher GSM always mean a stronger tarp?

No. It generally adds material and body, but poor weave, coating or fixing construction can still cause early failure.

What should be included on a purchase specification?

Include finished GSM and tolerance, weave or approved sample, dimensions, color, UV or FR requirement, reinforcement, eyelets, packing and inspection method.
